Percussionist Russell Cowie

Russell began his musical career at the tender age of only 7 and has been performing semi-professionally on percussion, piano and the trombone for over 8 years. Whilst studying classical music at Durham University, his focus on percussion turned to DJ-based sets and he immediately established himself on the Newcastle clubbing circuit.

In the UK, his performances have included corporate work for major brands like Toni & Guy, a televised appearance on the BBC's The Apprentice and numerous performances at Beach Break Live- the country's biggest student music festival.

He has performed in places as far afield as Vietnam and Singapore, held percussion workshops at schools in both England and Kenya and gigged at some of London's top clubbing venues before taking up his residency at The Roof Gardens two years ago. In 2006 he attempted to break the Guinness World Record for longest drumming marathon to raise money for the Hikkaduwa Tsunami Relief Fund based in Sri Lanka. Despite having to stop the attempt due to medical intervention, he raised over £3,000 for charity. Russell finished with a total time of 57 hours, 44 minutes, 28 seconds.

Basil Black2Basics

Basil; an accomplished Musician and DJ, has been playing drums for the past 24 years and has been DJing since he was 16. He took up Bongos and Congas as a hobby with no clue as to how drumming would soon play a major part in his working career. He was spotted playing in a couple of Jam Sessions around London and was approached by Underworld who then asked him to play on their first ever tour around Germany, which was also his first taste at being on tour as a musician.

He went on to perform on tours with Artists such as Desiree, Mc Coy, Joyce Simms, and Moodswings to name but a few in the early 90’s. This then prompted him to form his own band called Black2Basic which is still continuing to date, specializing in deep soulful funk music with elements of afro beats and Latin influences.

DJ Ace

From that moment onwards he started to meet other DJs, learning from them and at 15 he was given the opportunity to play regularly in a local bar in his home town in the Algarve, Portugal.

He wanted nothing in return but to see the smiles and the moving feet of the people listening. Aged 18, he signed his first DJ residency contract and at 19 he progressed to the position of official DJ at Geckos Club in Vale do Lobo, Portugal where he played for 5 amazing years. In 2009, at 22 years old, he moved to London and was offered to play in some venues in Soho including the Exchange Bar where he was resident for a while.
